This is what I know from another site 5 years or so ago. Thus it is not confirmed as accurate.
The English surname Greenslade is the name of a place in North Cawton, Devonshire. The source of the name can be traced to the Old English "Slaed" whic was used to denote a valley or galde. Thus, Greenslade simply signifies "green valley" or "green glade between woodlands" The surname is recorded in English documents during the thriteenth century. The blazon of arms is a chevron ermine between three saltires argent. (the saltire is the symbol of suffering for a faith and perseverance. The crest is a demi lion(gold) holding between the paws a saltire argent. The family motto is "It Prosim" which apparently translates to "That I may be of use." Something about the blazon of arms was awarded for dying in service to the King (i.e. a soldier).
