There is a really good book written on Wilfred by Janet and Geoff Benge. The title is 'Fisher of Men.'Wilfred was a wonderful man with a big heart who was in extremely good physical shape all of his life.He was full of energy, compassion and ideas.Brilliant! He was a Christian also, converted at a D. L. Moody rally he stumbled upon while studying to become a Doctor in London.
His mother was a Hutchinson, born in India where her father was a colonal in the British army.... which is why I am interested in him primarily.
His father's cousin was the famous English poet named Charles Kingsley who wrote the poem 'Sands of Dee' etc.
His granfather changed the spelling of their last name from Grenville to Grenfell. His ancetors were Basil Grenville, commander of the Cornish army that fought for King Charles and Wilfred's great uncle, John Pascoe Grenville.John went to sea at the age of eleven and had fought with the Chilean navy to help it defeat the Spanish navy and had been the first man aboard the Esmeralda, the Spanish admiral's ship when the Chileans had stormed and captured the vessel. He rose to the rank of rear admiral and was later made Brazil's ambassador to London. This man died in 1869 when Wilfred was only four years old.
