There was a close family relationship between members of the Greville family,Scott and Captain Lawrence Oates.
Maj Brooke Southwell Greville and Capt Oates where close friends who served together in the African Boer War and other campaighns leading upto Capt Oates joining Scotts expedition to the South Pole.
Maj Brooke Southwell Greville had certain dealings with Robert Falcon Scott and the arranging of events leading up to Scotts expedition to the South Pole.
One of these was trying to get Lt Belgrave Sutton Ninnis to also accompany Scott, but Scott said no.
