From the materials I've read on Illinois history, Timothy Gridley (sr.) was a land speculator who moved to Illinois from New York about 1840, as I recall, though it might have been about 1836.
His son, Timothy Gridley (jr.) owed money to my gggrfather, Wallace Augustus Gridley who was born about 1816 in Vermont (per our family bible.)Wallace A. Gridley (sr.) died in early September 1859 near Phoenix, Oregon (Ashland/Jacksonville area in Southern Oregon.)

Gridley (sr.) run from 1859 to 1882 and have a wealth of information about those times.

Gridley, when she was about 17.I can transcribe it.

Oh, the money owed to Wallace A Gridley had to be paid into the estate by Timothy Gridley (jr).I would LOVE to know how these folks are related.I've never been able to find mention of the exact birth place (Vermont) or parents of my Wallace A. Gridley (sr.) ancestor.

Gridley is listed in the marriage rolls as "William A. Gridley" who married Sarah Jones in 1840 in Fulton. However, court records (he was a witness to a murder) use the Wallace A. Gridley name as do later Oregon Donation Land Claim records and census records.More Replies:
