I am interested in the Grieveson name in County Durham. James Grieveson was born in 1811 at Quarry Head, Penshaw, County Durham. He is the 3rd Great Grandfather of my husband. According to the Parish Register for Penshaw, he is the son of Robert Grieveson, a Pitman, from Lanchester, County Durham and Elizabeth Taylor of Houghton le Spring, County Durham. Robert and Elizabeth had another 6 children all born in Penshaw, County Durham. In 1841 James and his family were living in Sherburn Hill, County Durham. In 1851 and 1861 they were in Hetton le Hole, County Durham. In 1871 they were in Monkwearmouth, County Durham, probably working at Wearmouth Colliery. The family disappear in 1881 and then appear again in 1891 in Southwick, County Durham. Does any one have any information on the family name in either Penshaw or Lanchester? Thank you.
