After reviewing my notes on the Griffing family, I realized that it is possible that Asa Mercer Griffing could be from the Jasper Griffing line. ( It is highly unlikely that he comes from the Asa Mercer-Lucy Griffin line or the Isham Griffin --Margaret Ford line.)
There was a Asa Mercer Griffing b. 1816, son of William Griffing and Sarah Jones. The possibility that a later generation may have repeated the name is likely since Asa Mercer was a famous preacher of the Methodist faith which was the most common among the Griffings.
