I'm trying to get some old Bibles into the right hands so I check ebay once in a while and then check the forums. I saw this Bible on ebay today with some family information in it and thought one of you should have it. Here's the description, the link follows:
Old and New Testaments, published by Lippincott, 1860. Hardbound in red leather with gold stamping and lettering, gold finish on all three exterior edges, about 9" by 12" (3" thick), 1482 pages.
This was the family Bible of sea captain Joseph M. Griffing of East Marion, New York, and passed down through the family for over 100 years. The Griffings were a prominent family on the East End of Long Island, New York (Greenport, Shelter Island and Riverhead areas). Includes handwritten notations of births and deaths, mostly from the 19th century.
The Bible is in overall Good+ condition. Interior is quite clean, minor foxing. Binding is somewhat worn and loose in spots but intact.
I don't have any financial interest in any of these, I just hate to see treasures like this in hands other than family. Hope this helps!
