Griffing Cemeteries Jefferson County, Mississippi

For those of you looking for descendants of the Jersey Settlers and Griffing cemeteries in Jefferson County, MS, there are at least two that I have found.
The first is listed in the Jefferson County Cemeteries Book Vol I, however, the directions are vague, wrong and out of date (from 1995). The following are the latest directions (Mar 2005): From Hwy 61, go west approximately 5.2 miles on hwy 552 to a dirt road which goes south (left) off the hwy. Follow this road approximately .5 mile, until you turn on a "road" going off to the east (left). (Approximately 10 yards to the left of this road, you will see the old sunken roadbed. The rest of these directions are for walking to the cemetery, but you can use a 4 wheel drive vehicle) Using the newer road, walk 100 yards up and over the rise, and the road will split. Take the road back to the left for approximately 75 yards, and it will intersect with the old sunken roadbed. Follow the old sunken roadbed to the right for about 175 yards. At this point, the old roadbed continues straight, however, a little to the right, there is an area of land which has been cleared and planted to bait deer. Walk through this cleared area, keeping the old roadbed to the left, for about 200 yards, to the cemetery. You will note that the old roadbed becomes a ravine on the left, there is another ravine to the right and you are walking on the high ground between the two. On the backside of the cemetery, you can see where the two ravines meet and Dowd Creek is also below. Very nice setting, but watch for snakes in the warmer months!! For you GPS types, the coords are:
31-51.349N 091-07.848W.

The second Griffing Cemetery is listed on Wayhoo.com as the Griffin Cemetery, in Jefferson County. It is also shown as "Cem" on a topo map of the area. Again, from Hwy 61, go east on hwy 552 for approx 4 miles, to an old paved road to the south (left). Take this old paved road for about .4 miles to the intersection. Turn right (this is the "Old Rodney Road")and follow this road for about 3.4 miles. You will see a house on the left (the Embry residence) with a circular drive. Just past the house, there is a dirt road to the left, take this road for about 200 yards, and the cemetery sits on the right. The approximate coords for you GPS types are: 31-50.529N 091-08.784W.

You may want to also go in to the old town of Rodney, while you are this close. It's almost a ghosttown, but a couple of churches still stand, and some of our ancestors did live there.
