Griffing Family Genealogy Forum

My great-great grandfather, John L. Griffin(g), lived in the above area of LI in the mid 1800s. His wife was Hannah Griffing (her maiden name). Both were related to the Jasper Griffing line. According to a biographical sketch of their son Samuel Griffin(g), a duck farmer in Flanders, John L. was born around 1812 in Connecticut, and his father's name was Henry Griffing, also born in Connecticut. John, his father Henry, and his son Samuel all spent some part of their lives at sea before settling down to farming. Another son of John's, named Oliver, was a sea captain. His daughter Mary married an Edwin Cory, and I am descended from her through her daughter Elsie. I am trying to identify Henry Griffing, John's father, and his ancestry. I believe from other bits of family history that Henry was from the Branford/Guilford area of Connecticut. If anyone has any information as to Henry's family, parents, etc., I would appreciate a contact. Thank you.
