In mid 1841, the family of Reverend Thomas J. Griffith his wife, Anne, and seven children, of Wales, arrived in Philadelphia aboard the SS Lehigh, from Liverpool. Griffiths, a theologian, was appointed to a post in Philadelphia. The eldest son, Thomas, was born in 1826; John Jeremy, 1828; David, 1831; Griffith 1833; Nugent, 1835; Frances, 1837; and George, 1840. The youngest child, Sarah, was born in 1846 in Philadelphia. Sons Thomas, David J, and George became physicians. Son John Jeremy was a silversmith. Son Griffith was a clerk
