The story about the Gold Rush is true, except that three brother went:Isaac, Aaron (my ancestor), and Jesse. All three were brothers, descended from James Griffitts m. Susannah Davis. Also accompanying the Griffitts brothers were Isaac's sons. One or two went.Isaac returned to the Midwest as did Aaron.Jesse relocated to San Francisco. The 3 brothers and Isaac's sons are counted on the 1850 CA Census, Placerville. As I recall Jesse was counted on the 1860 CA Census, San Francisco. He (Jesse) does not show up on any other records after those San Francisco rolls.I didn't find any data proving that one brother died in the mines.Jesse might have died somewhere in California after the rush, however, I haven't found any documentation that he went back to the mining areas in the Sierras.By the way, according to census records, they didn't strike it rich. Are you in touch with Betty Leslie? She descends from Isaac.
Best,
Laura
