Chat | Daily Search | My GenForum | Community Standards | Terms of Service Jump to Forum Home: Surnames: Grissel Family Genealogy Forum Name Changing Posted by: Heather Barford (ID *****3672) Date: February 04, 2012 at 19:47:33 In Reply to: John GRISSEL & Elizabeth ELAM of VA by Beverly (HIMES) BARGER of 9 Grissel comes into my husbands family tree with Sussanah 1790 marrying Thomas Barford 1812 her father John spelt it Grissell but only the last of 8 children had it spelt that way.The name changed spelling with his grandfather to Grisold it continued back for 6 generations with this spelling and then it changed to Griswold and continues back 9 generations with this spelling.I haven't checked to see if someone with a similar name came over with William the Conqueror but it seems quite likely.
