Hi Becky,
I am still working on Elam, and though I don't have anything definitive, I wanted to share what I found.
I looked for Shubael, who turns up close to Elam in the 1820 Charlestown, NH census.Someone named Wise Griswold is also listed on the same page.In the book "The Griswold Family: England - America" on page 145, a Shubael (Shubael, Roger, Joseph, Joseph, Edward) is listed with the following statement:"No records have been found concerning him.He is thought to be the Shubael who removed to Charlestown, NH, shown on the Census there in 1800."
Shubael had a father of the same name and an Uncle named Roger -- both names of people you mention as enumerating Elam.I also looked through the name index in the book, and the name Shubael only appears in the Edward Griswold line, which may narrow the search for Elam a tiny bit.
Finally, I found an Ellen Griswold(Joseph, Joseph, John, Edward), b. 1771, same as Elam, who turned out to actually be ETHAN Griswold (he died in Walpole NH and left a will). This makes me think other errors have been made and Elam is in there somewhere under another name.Back I go to "Families of Ancient Windsor."
One other thought: JJ Griswold appears on the 1840 census near Elam, and you list him as Elam's child.I'm wondering if his name was Jeremiah after Sarah Lord's father?
Please let me know if you've found anything further adn I'll do the same. Thanks!Sheri
