I'm searching for my missing uncle, Frederick Arthur Gromes. He was born 1927/28 in New York.
Frederick joined the US Navy in May 1944 and served for 4 years. Some or all of that time, he was stationed in Australia (base unknown), he operated a ship that transported officers. While in the service, he had a lady friend in Australia named Pat Brown.
After returning to the states, Frederick married a woman named Jerry (maiden name unknown) and had three sons prior to 1960, they were named Billy, Ricky & Craig.
Frederick drove truck for the Roy B. Moore Co. in Kingsport, TN. In 1960, Frederick disappeared, leaving his wife and 3 sons behind. Alledgedly no-one has heard from him since. His car, that he had just purchased 4 new tires for, was found- minus the tires.
At the time of his disappearance in 1960, Frederick was described as approximately 6 ft 2 inches tall, dark brown hair and blue eyes, weighing about 200 lbs. He had a speech impediment, in that, he ocassionally stuttered when speaking.
Frederick was a truck driver by trade, but was also mechanically inclined. He also enjoyed hunting!
We (his family) would like to know what became of him. his siblings want him to know that they love him and miss him very much. Sadly, Frederick's mother died in 1972 and his father died in 1973 and a sister died several years ago...none of them ever learning the whereabouts of their loved one, Frederick.
Frederick...if you are out there reading this, please send us a message, somehow, telling us that you are alive and well. Please give your family some closure.
Thank you...Frederick's niece (by Margaret) Teri
