Groombridge of Oxted - and where before?

I've managed to trace my Groombridge ancestors back to 1706 when Thomas Grumbridge married Mary Basset in Oxted, Surrey.

Thomas died in 1740. He used the following names for his children: James, Thomas, Elizabeth, Ann, Ruth, and George.

What I need to know is where he came from before arriving in Oxted.

The IGI at familysearch shows no likely looking baptisms but two marriages of possible-looking parents:
Thomas G and Ruth Abraham, marr 3 Oct 1671, Tonbridge, and
James G and Elizabeth Waters, marr 3 June 1677, Leigh (Kent)

Can anyone out there help?
