In my research, I found the Daniel, father of Levi to be Daniel, whom I must suppose to be the son of Phillip Daniel, son of Hans Phillip, auswanderer fum Mutterstadt, Pfalz in 1730, on the ship Thistle. I know Phillip was born in Mutterstadt in 1721, and obtained land in what is now Adams co. PA in or about 1762. He was named in a court suit with his father Hans Phillip in 1744, and is then found in the tax documents from 1762 on, in the same location- variably 100 to 200 acres of farmland. The Daniel who died in 1722 at the same site, and who is the father of Levi,(his mother is Christina Decker), must have been born about 1775 as he was listed as a wagonmaker, sold off most of the property before his untimely death, began keeping a daily business record in 1800, the same year his first son Jesse was born. He maintained the record, which I have hefted and studied until his death in 1722, having fathered Levi just one year before. You are dealing with many Daniel Groscosts in the PA and OH territory of this period, since the two brothers Daniel and John both named sons Daniel, whose sons also propagated the name. Sometimes difficult to determine which is which.Levi is not descended from John, so far as I can make out.
