Terry, The name is found both in France and germany as Groscost. The spelling on the immigration of hans phillip in 1730 is Groscost, as it was upon the lists of Dr. Braun of germany regarding those who left Mutterstadt in 1730. I have been called almost any variant imagineable during my life, and find the name in lists under most of them, but it is not to be confused with the variants of Groskopf who entered the country about the same time. However, I note variants of Groscost arising in the same church records over a period from Groscopfst-to Groscofst-to Groscost- all apparently regarding the very same family, but spelled by different writers over time.
