"Freeman F"--a mystery

My friend Freeman F(no period)Gross wants to know the origin of his name. His father, also Freeman F(no period)Gross, died suddenly when my friend was quite young. An elderly uncle who lived near Galva, Henry County, Illinois, also named Freeman F.Gross(see PORTRAIT & BIOGRAPHICAL ALBUM OF KNOX COUNTY,ILLINOIS 1886) told my friend's father that the name Freeman F.Gross must be perpetuated. This uncle was "born in Cortland, New York, February 13,1817. His father,Freeman Gross Sr.,was likewise a farmer and a son of Jabez Gross, who sailed from England with General Wolfe for the United States and who afterward fought under the General at the Heights of Abraham in the French and English War of 1765...It was from Jabez and his brother Thomas that the Gross family throughout the United States are descended..."
