While this isn't my family -- I'm stuck at work playing while waiting for reports run and happened upon your message. So I decided I'd do some digging.
Here's what I found.
I think August and William are brothers.
On the 1900 census I found the following Grote family in West Town, Chicago, Cook, IL:
Henryb:1848 Germany(immigrated in 1872)
Ernestine b:1855 Germany(7 children; 5 alive in 1900)
Henry Jrb:1875 Wisconsin
Williamb:1876 Wisconsin
Augustb:1880 Illinois
Hugob:1884 Illinois
It appears the family rented a home on Fowler and sold vegetables.
Based on the 1920 census your Willima (married to Bendina) was born in Wisconsin. Also on the 1920 census I found August and Kate (Catherine) with two children Edward age 5 and Raymond age 1 2/12 (14 months). If she died in 1920 she most likely passed after Jan 12, 1920 when the census was taken. My guess Nov 4, 1920 based on the Chicago Death Index.
On the 1930 census August and his son Raymond are living with his sister Ida Rohwedder (b: Wisconsin),Thier father Henry (age 90) is also living them.Ida must be the fifth child that was still alive in 1900.
Hope this helps.
It definately appears as though they are your relations.
