KRICKL/GRUNEWALD/GREENWOOD

Enjoy a mystery? An ancestor of mine, Rudolf Krickl of Austria, emigrated to the U.S. in 1866, probably under the assumed name of Karl of Joseph Grunewald/Gruenewald (or some variation thereof) and disappeared for about some years before suddenly appearing in Buffalo, NY, in 1871-1873. After marrying Mary Agatha Biehl in 1882 he changed his name again, this time to Charles E. Greenwood. Where was he between 1866 and 1871/1873? Did he have a marriage in the U.S. prior to his 1882 marriage in Buffalo? Did he have any children in these years? Anyone running into a slippery Grunewald/Gruenewald in NY state or other eastern states who disappeared in the 1871-1873 era, please contact me. This is the skeleton in my closet and I'd love to track the man's journey from U.S. immigration to Buffalo!
