You may be interested in some of my ancestors who have the name Gubbin or Gubbins. Several years ago I did some research, which I have not validated thoroughly, but my ancestor Bernard Paynter married Sarah Gubbin 6 July 1779 at Whitstone in North Cornwall, England.
Study of parish registers yielded the following possible ancestors of Sarah:
Father John Gubbin 1713-1769 Boyton, Cornwall, England
Grandfather Digory Gubbins 1675-1743 Boyton, Cornwall, England
GGrandfather Henry Gubbin 1638 - ? North Tamerton, Cornwall
GGGrandfather George Gubbin 1609- ? North Tamerton, Cornwall
GGGGrandfather Richard Gubbin 1591 -? North Tamerton, Cornwall
I cannot recall where I read it, but I have the impression that the Gubbin family was quite rich for the area, and some members of the family served in Government or were at University in the 1600s. Maybe I saw something on a gravestone.
I hope this might interest you.
