Hi, thanks for the information. Knowing that John Gunnell maried Martha Davis, I was able to find some more information on ancestry.com - they were married in Louisa Co. on 26 Dec. 1832 (her middle name was Ann). What I am looking for is to find as much information as I can find about my great, great grandparents; Mary Catherine Gunnell and John Washington Durvin. I am still a bit confused - but I think there were three persons named John Gunnell and three persons named Mary Gunnell. The first John Gunnell (1730-1803) was the one who married Sarah West. The second (1763-1836) was the one who married Lucy Fleming. The third John (born abt. 1808?) was the one who married Martha Ann Davis. The first Mary was the daughter of Sarah West. The second Mary was the daughter of Lucy Fleming. And I believe that the third Mary was Mary Catherine Gunnell, the daughter of Martha Ann Davis.I'm not sure of this (since the third John would have been about 17 years old when the third Mary was born), but I don't think she was the daughter of Lucy Fleming, since Lucy would have been about 57 years old when Mary C. was born (and Lucy would have been 62 years old when Alexander was born).I am basing this on the date of birth for Lucy on her gravestone - 1772, and the birth years you provided for her children.I think there is another generation here - that of John (the third) and Martha Ann Davis.I have photographs of the Gunnell Family Cemetery and of the gravestones there. The cemetery appears to be well maintained and the 'memorial fence' was placed in 1965 - so someone must be maintaining the cemetery? If we can find out who - then perhaps they can provide some answers on the Gunnell family history.Right now, I have reached a 'dead end' and am willing to take any suggestions or information.I appreciate your input, it did help.
