Gunning family coming to Australia

I am looking for Alexander Hunter Gunning (Middle name added later)& he was born 1863(?)We thought he originated from Ireland (Cromac Belfast on birth certicate) but have been hearing stories maybe came from Ayrshire Scotland. His parent were James Gunning possibly changed from Weames - I think they came from Ayrshire Scotland, & Ann Jane Wallace formally Burns. Alexander was married to Emma Fitch(?)(She & their child died) in Australia & then married Anna Sophia Entrom in Newcastle NSW Australia about 1899(?). There is a story in the family that he had a 100 pound bounty on his head in Ireland for killing a catholic priest.
Please is there anyone who can help with this mystery.
