I was interested in this thread, especially as my wife is a direct descendant of a Laura GUNNING, reputedly born in Somerset in about 1828. I am keen to understand all I can about her and wonder if there is any connection between the Somerset GUNNINGs and the Earls of Coventry. The GUNNING name appears in their pedigree, perhaps with an Irish connection.
Laura GUNNING married Henry GODING, a London brewer, but I don't know when or where they married, except that it was probably in England.
I am also keen to discover all I can about Henry GODING, born in England in the very early 1800s. He ran a brewery called the LION Brewery at Lambeth. The brewery fronted the river Thames on the south side; see http://collage.cityoflondon.gov.uk/collage/app?service=external/Item&sp=M36011:T:T:T&sp=15606&sp=X .
Notice the large stone lion over the entrance gate in the picture at that link. This is made of Coade stone and now stands as a monument in the south side of Westminster Bridge in London, opposite the Houses of Parliament. It was once painted red.
Anything on Henry GODING, Laura GUNNING or their families would be most precious to me.
