Gunning in Dublin, Incicore or Kilmainham area.

My great grandfather's name was John Gunning born in Dublin around 1873 married to Elizabeth who was born around 1874. They have 6 children that I know of John born around 1896, Patrick born around 1897, Charles (my grandfather) born September 1902, Henry born around 1905, Alfred or Alfie born around 1908 (rumour has it he fathered 24 children to the same wife) and Dot born after 1911. This family lived in West Terrace New Kilmainham in 1911. I got this information from the Dublin Census archives for that year.

I would like to know more about the family pre 1911. There are a number of Gunnings in the New Kilmainham area of Dublin at this time and I'm sure some of them are related. I wondered if anyone had information about when they arrived in Dublin. Rumour has it that they migrated there from Limerick. I thought it possible that they arrived there during the Great Famine.
