There are so many name similarities here, but I don't think we are gonna match. My Amos J. Gunning, was in the Boston area getting married by 1850, and served in the Civil War with the Massachusetts troops. Then, by 1875, he was working for the US government in Washington, DC. As far as I know, he never left the DC area after that. The other coincidences are that he had a son, John W. who married an Abbie Louise. Very close - but no cigar. Thanks for the reply.
