In the mid 1800s, a girl named Melissa Arkansas Gupton married a Shearin (?) in Halifax County, NC. I am interested in knowing how she came to be named "Melissa Arkansas" because my gggrandmother, Malissa Neville, was from Halifax County and died in about 1845 enroute by wagon train to Arkansas. I am curious to know if there is a connection.
