I wonder about the listing of Albert Sidney Gupton, born 1851 to Elijah Albert and Mary. My recall my grandfather's name as Sidney Lewis Gupton, whom was born in 1852 to the Sheriff of Franklin County, NC. After a Gupton family reunion at Rocky Mount in 1968, my son Guy III and I were taken for a ride up into Franklin County and were shown a log cabin on a hill, which was said to have been the home and birthing place of Grandpa G. I was also shown a smokehouse with a stone chimney, which I was told was built in 1732 for the Gupton homestead that burned later. How much later I did not hear.
My son was a student at Vanderbilt University and appeared on the GE College Bowl. A genealogist lady from Wilson, NC was doing a genealogical investigation for a Judge Gupton in Victoria, TX. When she saw Guy III on TV, she saw he was from Atlanta, then wrote a friend in Atlanta to look us up in the phone book. She wrote me and I called her, then flew up to Rocky Mount to the reunion and met her. I have misplaced her name. Sidney Lewis Gupton was buried in Register, GA in 1937 along with his second wife, Emmy Moore from Altamaha, NC.
