Seeking information on Owen Tudor Gwalchmai/Gwathmey, who came to the New World from England/Wales sometime in the latter part of the 17th century. Specifically, I would like to know if anyone has any information pertaining to his reasons for emigrating. From the research I've done so far, it seems there are two conflicting theories; One states that he was a Royalist, and came over c. 1650 following the execution of Charles I and the ascension of Oliver Cromwell as protectorate. The other states that he supported Cromwell and signed a petition endorsing Oliver Cromwell's son, Richard, as protectorate following Oliver Cromwell's death, and that when Charles II succeeded in taking the throne, he fled to the New World, c. 1660. Both theories can't be right, and I'd like to hear from others who might have more information than I have been able to find thus far. --Thanks!!
