Dear Roxy,
I would be interested in whether Suggs Presbyterian Church contains info on the Wynns from Wilson County. I was recently driving through Wilson County (was on an unexpected trip and on a Sunday) and stopped at the Gwynn Cemetery on Gwynn Rd, outside Lebanon. I have wanted to go there forever.
Anyway, Judith Hillard Perry Wynn Gwynn, is buried there and was married to Robert Gwynn. She was the sister of my ancestor, Ridley Buncombe Wynn. His parents were Thomas and Rebecca Ridley Wynn. Rebecca Ridley Wynn died in Wilson Co, TN in 1826, but we're not sure where she is buried. Thomas Wynns is a mystery. I believe he may have been the son of Joseph Wynns from Bertie & Granville Co, NC. We lose him after Judith is born, and have not found proof of his parentage. Anyway I wonder if you might share the pdf on Suggs Church.
Rebecca Ridley Wynn had a son who was a Methodist Minister and my Wynn family were all Methodist after leaving TN to Tishomingo County, Mississippi.
I wonder too if anyone knows for sure who the Samuel Bryant (b. 1777 d. 1821) buried also at this Gwynn Cemetery is, and what's his connection to the Gwynn/Wynn family.
I live about 8 hrs from Wilson County now, but hope I'll get back there. I loved the area and felt like I was walking near the steps of my ancestors. I understood from the folks where I stopped while trying to locate the cemetery, that the Gwynns had owned a lot of land in that area. I took a few picts. The cem was overgrown but secured by 2 fences (I had to climb over) and a low cement wall.
There is also a Wynn connection to the Burton family in Wilson Co. I know that basically the Gwynn/Wynn family is the same family at some point, however we have no info to tell us if our Thomas Wynns family name had changed in America or Wales. Family legend says he was a bit of a scoundrel and spent his wife's inheritance foolishly. There was supposably some horse racing and betting that may have got the best of him. I think the Gwynn and Burton family were involved in the horse business some too.
Another sister of my Ridley Wynn married a Hooker and is buried at the mentioned Hooker Cemetery near Gladeville. I have seen posts from her descendents too.
Thanks so much for anything you might be able to share about these families. Rebecca
