A correspondent now points out other names that may have the same Sephardic Jewish derivation: Deshayes and even the common Diaz name. And how about the Hays name in colonial New York, which was often (or generally) Sephardic Jewish?....I do not suggest that all these people would likely have the same male ancestor long ago, as the Dugas or Ducas line has several different DNA readings, in haplogroups J and K. What does seem likely, however, is that Sephardic Jewish ancestry shows up frequently, maybe generally. HFS
