Then you and I are third cousins, once removed. My family story about Wilhelm HAASE is this: that he was a Prussian of good family, but not the eldest son, so he went into the military. That he was part of the forces occupying Paris after the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and that he met Napoleon the Third; that he was fluent in French and that after emigrating to America he continued for many years to correspond with the French family with whom he had been billeted. That he was a soldier by necessity, but not by nature; when he came to America he opened a flower shop. I guess he was handy, too - I have a small wooden table that he made.
Wilhem & his wife Wilhelmina moved from Minnesota to California when their daughter Elizabeth married Benjamin Maves. My grandmother (nee Edith Maves) is still living and has memories of Wilhelm and Wilhelmina and their other daughter Martha, but no stories of Emil.
