Ron, just found a letter dated 1979 from a cousin and she says that Joseph was born in Nassau, West Germany, which is between Koblenz and Limburg on a smaller river off the Rhine. I have no way of confirming this and it still doesn't tell me much but it may mean something to you. Thanks
