Carol - I have an ancestor James Haddow married to Mary Lockhart whose youngest daughter, Isabel, was born in Douglas in 1793. James seems to have been born in Lesmahagow (which is very near Douglas). Although your William is not James's son (I am descended from James' son William, b 1781 in Lesmahagow, who married Barbara Hain) it may be that there is a relationship a generation or so back. The eldest son of James whom we have recorded is called Andrew which suggests that his father might have been called Andrew Haddow. (James' son Andrew married Marion Callan from Douglas. We don't have a record of Andrew's death but Marion died in Douglas in 1868.)

My William is likely to have been called after his grandfather Lockhart and his elder sister Margaret after her grandmother Lockhart. The other children of James and Mary Lockhart whom we have found in the Old Parish Records are William's younger brother, John, and his younger sister, Isobel. Do you know the names of any of your William's siblings?

If you wish to reply, my e-mail address is maureenkelly@blueyonder.co.uk
