Thia ..........I'm going to quote to you word for word what the book says.I'm sure there would be more in this book that would be of interest to you but will give you a little bit of what I can find. There are many chapters on Joseph. You are starting back to the New World, when Hodsoll became Hadsell.
During 1635 and 1700 there are several authentic records of Hadsells being in America but the records are disconnected and scarce.
Isaac Hodsoll is recorded on the pedigree chart of Loose Cort Branch in England as having died in 1784, at the age of 28.This could be a mistake. He could have disappeared and they recorded him dead, but Isaac Hadsell turned up in the 1790's census at Hancock, Massachusetts, and on August 17, 1792, married Isabel Eldridge and had nine children. One of his prominent decendents is Kleber Hadsell of Rawlings, Wyoming, a great sheep man and President of the U.S. Wool Growers Association of Amercia.
Undoubtedly with extensive research the connection link could be found for the Joseph, whether he was descendent of some of the Hadsells that came earlier or whether he came direct from England. There seems to be no doubt that these American Hadsells are all from the same family and more or less closely related as they all settled in the same place near Westerly, Rhode Island, or across the river in New London, Connecticut.
Earliest Colonial Record
Richard Hadsell is mentioned as having come fefore 1645.Joseph Hadsell is mentioned twice in Connecticut.Colonial records in 1665 and 1677 regarding Guard Duty and Indian Relations.
John Hadsall, 24 years old, was a passenger on the Elizabeth Ann in 1635.This could be Hadsell.Thomas Hedsoll comes in famous Obediah Holms case when he was whipped and imprisoned, and died as the result, in 1651 could be misspelled for Hadsell.
In the Killingsworth old town records is John Hadsell, married Marcy Cane 10/20/1701 and Mary Hadsall, with others, petition in 1704 for the establishing of the first Baptist Church in Connecticut.Ref. Am New Haven Geneogical Magz., Vol. 10.
The Compendium of FIRST FAMILIES OF AMERICA, Vol. 5, p.448 gives what is called "pedigree of "Joseph Hadsell", as follows:
Richard Hadsell, Born:1622, Married: Joan Bateman
Joseph Hadsell, Born:9/20/1645, Married: Mary Perry, Killed by Indians.
Joseph Hadsell, Born: 1675, Married: Hanna.
Joseph Hadsell, Born: about 1695 of Westerly, R.I.
With this last Joseph, we find authontic records for his connected line, down to the present time.
Joseph Hadsell:Born: Before 1695, Died: 9/25/1727Married: 11/10/1715 to Rachel, daughter of William & Mary (Sanders) Crumb.Joined together in wedlock by Peter Crandel, Justice of the Peace, in the bounds of Westerly, R.I. ....Occupation:Farmer, Blacksmith and boat man.Resided near Westerly, R.I.
November 13, 1727, the town council of Westerly grants Rachel Administratrix of Joseph's estate and assigns Theadaty Rhodes, John Maxon and John Hill appraisers. The inventory........ a long list .......... includes a complete Blacksmith shop, bellows, vice, anvil, and all the tools, horses, cattle, a long list of house hold goods, farm tools, a valuable boat, and a farm.
On March 29, 1742, she came before the council and gave accounting of her administration. She was allowed 78 lbs. 9 son, 8 daug., for keeping her said dead husband's children. She married a second time to Obadiah Pendleton of Westerly.
This is all probably more than you wanted LOL!I am having a problem with connecting Joseph with Anna. There are volume's on Joseph.I will keep searching. My mother-in-law who is a Hadsell will be coming for Thanksgiving soon, 11/16.She might be able to help with this.I'll keep in touch.Hope all this is some help to you,
Kate
