I'm looking for further connections to John Russell Hadwen born in Ossett Yorkshire in 1834. John Russell died in 1909. HIs occupation was a cloth dyer, and he also ran a lodging house in Bradford Road, Dewsbury for a time around 1881.
He married twice, probably to two sisters, firstly Elizabeth Almond who bore him a son Herbert Edell Hadwen, followed by Ella Hadwen who was my Great grandmother, and another son Walter. When Elizabeth died, he married Emma Almond who bore him two daughters Ethel and Elsie. However at some point Emma died and Ethel and Elsie were brought up by an aunt called Ellen Hadwen at Bedale in Yorkshire. It is noticeable how all the female members of this line had names beginning with E at the time! Even Herbert had a middle name similarly abounding with Es and Ls!
Ethel was trained to be a teacher and taught in Darlington then Nottingham. She eventually retired to Bexhill on Sea where I used to visit her in a large house next door to the church.
I am interested in tracing other members of the Hadwen family from Yorkshire or elsewhere, or indeed of the Almond family which married into this family. I am also looking for details of Annie Almond who may or may not also have been one of John Russells children, who lived in Salford when I was younger and married a blind piano tuner called Tom Collins. She died around 1970.
I know some of the family must have moved to Batley as one of my 'uncles' had a fruit stall in the Batley market when I was young.
