What do we know about John Hagerman and do the records refer to one man or two?
John Hagerman of Frederick County, MD, as Johann Hegemann, married Anna Aemelia Brafiel on 25 May 1788 as recorded in the records of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, MD. [Her father] Mark Brafiel witnessed the marriage. Other documents confirm the identity of this couple and the Brafiel/Brayfield family.
John Hagerman appears in the 1790 census of Frederick Co, p 62: 2 M over 16, 1 M under 16, 2 Females.
John Hagaman leased a house in Allegany County, MD, to Spencer Cooper for 10 years, dated 23 Jan 1792, Deeds A:156-159. At the request of John Hagerman the statement of William Moore dated 20 Nov 1792 was recorded, that he retracted his accusation against Elena Hagerman. He had said she took a silver door from his chest. Allegany County, MD, Deeds A:254. No record has been located showing how John obtained the house.
However, at least this last item appears to belong to the couple who obtained a marriage license in Allegany County, MD, on 28 October 1791: John Hagerman to Eleanor Gorman.
Amelia Hagerman, who is proven as the wife married in 1788, married (2) James Blare/Blair on 5 April 1795. Presumably her husband John Hagerman was deceased by this date but I have never seen any proof of this--estate documents, etc. Samuel Hagerman, born ca 1790 per censuses, appears closely in records with the Blairs and is presumed the son of Amelia and John Hagerman.
Does anyone have proof of this couple's children? Two more children were in the household in 1790, but a bit "close" for three children born between their 1788 marriage and the 1790 census. Any idea of the age of Amelia's husband John Hagerman? Might he have had a son John from an earlier marriage?
Thank you, Nedra
