I called Armen and learned a lot. Altouon and her sister (Armen's mother) Anna had a brother in the old country. Their last name was Depoian. The brother tried hiding so as not to go into the service and was found and killed. Their father, first name unknown had come to America earlier. Anna worked in the fields with men as she was very strong. Altoon was a weakly type so got to go to school, which Anna wished she could have done. Anna married George Mooshoian and Altoun married Marderos Hagopian in the old country. They then took a ship to America to join their father in Massachusetts, leaving the mother behind who got sick and died in Armenia. This had to be in the early 1900's as Armen was born in this country in 1909 and the largest massacre was 1914 although I think there were a couple earlier. Their father lived with a family in MA. and when he died, was buried in Potter's Field in North Burial ground. I will call cousin Alice to find out about the Hagopians---I think her father may have been Marderos' brother or cousin. What is interesting is that Aunt Sadie's first husband Charlie Geogerian was the brother of Vask Depoian with whom Donald stayed in contact with all of his life. Cousin Alice was a secretary in Coro jewelry for many years---she was very close to my mother.
