Were you able to find out anything more about the artist who painted "Birth of the American Flag"? At the bottom of a reproduction of it that I found in a Victorian scrapbook that I own is printed in caps in the left hand corner, "ART SUPPLEMENT TO THE LOS ANGELES SUNDAY TIMES, JULY 4TH 1897." Would this be the same print that your neighbor had that you were going to research? I would be interested in knowing what you found out, and whether or not this picture is worth anything, although the condition is not mint. This particular picture shows Betsy Ross holding the flap up rather than sewing it, and the flag in reflected also in the light from a window bouncing off the wood floors. George Washington is seated on the left side in a low divan. There are four other figures crowded around the flag in early American dress. It is a wonderful piece of Americana. Thanks, Don
