The Halbert Cemetery on the Swan Creek Rd., Lincoln Co., TN is close to not being there. We visited there a couple of years ago and the man that owns the place has let his cows run through it and destroy it. A few of the stones are readable, the best is that of Pleasant Halbert born 1811 and died 1895.
The Pleasant Halbert family home is across the road from the pasture to get to the cemetery. It goes back prior to the Civil War and was rebuilt after the war, due to being burnt. This place was owned by descendants of Pleasant's up until just a few years ago. Also there has been a few of the Halbert descendants in the area.
I live in TX and had just started in genealogy a couple of years ago. When I was lead to the cemetery and I was sick of the condition it was in. It is so hard to beleive that Halbert descendants let it go as they did, they should be ashamed of themselves. I called the state and everyone I could think of and they said there is nothing I can do to make the "now" owner fence the cemetery. The first time I was there he had a gate off the road to the cemetery. I went back about eighteen months ago and he had a big new fence up where you can't get over it. My great great grandfather, William, brother to the 1811 Pleasant Halbert, is buried there and his stone can not be found due to age and abuse, how sad.
