James Rufus Halbert? Halburnt? 1854 Tn or NC

My great grandfather was found as a child during the Civil War after either his father or brother was killed in Tennessee. The person who found him wrote his name as James Rufus "Halburnt". However, we have never found another family with that spelling and think that it could possibly be "Halbert" or "Halburt". He said that he was born about 1854 in North Carolina and his father was from Scotland and his mother from England. We think that he had 2 brothers and a sister. I am looking for anyone who could be related to him.
