halfacre cemeteries/three

I was just reading about the Battle of Franklin in Williamson Co., and I happened upon the notice of the Halfacre Cemetery.

Actually, there are three of these cemeteries. The original one is located in the side front yard of a family, who have been very patient with the comings and goings of Halfacre relatives. I've lost their names, but they were very nice.

Elizabeth's middle name was Abethia, and she was a Lettiner. This name must have sounded like Latner because my Lagrone relatives have carried the name down through the 1950's. Both the women and the men were given this name, and it was usually shortened to the nickname LAT.

There is another Halfacre Cemetery in a field just up the road from the other one. You have to cross a few fences and a creek, and it is in a shady wooden area in a pasture. Unfortunately, most of its tombs are not legible, and it is so shady that what are legible can barely be seen. Most of the tombs have been destroyed by cows and the ravages of time.

There is another cemetery across the main river or big creek. To find all of these, one needs to start at the genealogy library in Franklin. There is a map of all the cemeteries, and one can follow it, but I warn you that the one in the pasture is quite a trek. My time ran out, and I never made it to the most modern one, but I do want to go back some day.

I descend from Mary Ann Halfacre, the daughter of Jacob and Abethia Lettiner. She married John William Lagrone, who migrated to Carroll Co., Mississippi. From there, the family came to the Ashley and Drew Co.line of AR area.
