iriquois indians 1786

I've heard two stories now, one from Jacob @ 200 years ago, and one that comes from the imancipation proclimation where slaves, indentured servants, and American Indians were allotted certain amounts of land by the government. At the time the full amount was a "Halfacre and a mule" now from what I've been told is some of the Irroqois indians took the name of the land they were given instead of the near unprounouncable tounge. Does anyone know about the possible connection of the name to this story?
