Dear Mrs. Thaxton,
What we do know is that There was more than one Elizabeth. The one cited as 79 years of age in the 1850 Census was born approx. 1771, whereas the other who is buried on the Upper Sandusky was born approx. 1778. The 1771 Lady is listed in the Jacob Jr. and Mary Halfhill household at the bottom above Lydia, aged 38. A close examination of the place of origination is intriguing here...Persons born in PA are listed with a Pa. But Elizabeth has a Rw...Please examine closely...it is very different...
There are some mysteries afoot...One being that Jacob Senior is listed as born in records as 1775. But there is another listing of Jacob as being born in 1750...and Marrying an Elizabeth in approx. 1772. The possible conclusion being that there are TWO JACOB AND ELIZABETH HALFHILLS...RELATED and later a household tending to an elderly relative. Marriage dates for the two Jacob and Elizabeths are differing as well.
I do not yet have all of the answers but, the records are there and lead us to believe that both hold truth. Its like there are two Jacobs married to Marys...Jacob Halfhill and Mary Ann Rey, Jacob Halfhill and Mary Barnhill...
There's more to all this than meets the eye when we deal with Census and other old records...
Best Regards,
Phil Reed Halfhill
