SAMUEL BLAIR HAMBRICK OBIT SCOTTSBORO ALABAMA
Samuel Blair Hambrick, 83, of Scottsboro, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Huntsville Hospital. Sam was born May 2, 1928 in Hollytree, Alabama to the late A.C. Hambrick and Nellie Toney Hambrick.
Sam was a graduate of the University of North Alabama (formerly Florence State Teachers College) and Alabama A&M University. During the European Occupation, Sam served his country in the United States Army. Upon completion of military service, Sam began his life's calling of teaching, coaching. He was a member of Scottsboro First United Methodist Church and the Scottsboro Kiwanis Club. He was elected to the Scottsboro City Board of Education where he served from 1986-1992.
Sam is survived by his wife, Edith; his daughters, Jan Hodgson and her husband, Bill, of Montgomery, Lisa Barfoot and her husband, Jim, of Scottsboro and Joy Burgess and her husband, Tim, of Burlington, N.C.; his grandchildren Margaret Blair Hodgson, William Carter Hodgson, Jr., and Emily Adair Burgess; and his sisters, Mary Nell Payne, Clara Hill and Kathryn Hartline.
In addition to his parents Sam was preceded in death by his brothers, Fred William Hambrick and Franklin Boyd Hambrick.
A celebration of his life was be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the Scottsboro First United Methodist Church with burial at Pinehaven Cemetery in Hollywood.
