Gavin Black was Sarah Hambright's first husband. They married ABT 1769 and had 5 sons. One of their sons, John S. Black (b. 1790), moved to Texas in 1820, and was active in the Texas Revolution and the early Republic of Texas. Gavin Black died in 1997, and Sarah married John Eaker the following year. She was his second wife. This information comes from the "John S. Black" Family Society, which meets every year (and has for the past 75 years), in Grimes County, Texas to research and document family history. The information is also available in the Grimes County, Texas Library, and in the book, "The History of Grimes County." Our family also has some family heirlooms that belonged to Gavin and Sarah, and which are on display during the family reunion. In addition, most of the members of the John S. Black Society are members of the Daughters/Sons of the Texas Revolution, and further documentation regarding John S. Black and his parents, Gavin and Sarah, can be found through that organization. Also, several other decendents of Gavin and Sarah were active in the Texas Revolution. I do agree, however, that "Tennessee Cousins" is full of mistakes!!
