My records show that Col. Frederick Hambright's son Frederick Hambright, Jr. had a son Benjamin Hambright b. 1795/1800, d. 1882/1884. Wife #1 was ___________ Dixon. Wife #2 was Deborah ____________. The 1800 birth date would fit with the age for Benjamin listed in your CA census material.

My info comes from a generation-by-generation summary of our Hambright line from Col. Frederick down to us, prepared by my mother, whose research was meticulous. I do not know where all her back-up documentation is stored, but anyway maybe this will be some help to you. In the summary in addition to the listing of Frederick Jr.'s offspring is a trancription of Federick Jr.'s will, probated 1844. Benjamin is not mentioned by name in this will, though his other surviving siblings and some of the grandchildren are, but the will does indicate a prior division of property --- Benjamin could have already received his share and left for Calif by 1844.
