800 years of Hamels'
This monthcelebrate the 800 anniversary of theHamel name.
We acquired the name in a land transaction with our cousin the King of France in May of 1210. Our family name has not changed in any form since it was acquired . It appears to be of Scandinavian origin meaning de lapole or referring to tall and thin solid. Contrary to popular belief its origin are not based in Arabic, the Hamlin river valley, or the Imaginative hamlet story. More so the Hamlin name is a derivative of the Hamel name. Simply put we acquired some land and with suchcame the Hamel name. None of the other siblings carry the Hamel name except for one, the oldest of the siblings married into the Crevocouer Hamel line from Corbie/Hamel and acquired His surname from his wife's family.
***Happy 800th to all the Hamel cousins'***
