Hamlin is also a spelling variation. Alexis Hamelin (b.1818) dropped the "e" from Hamelin to shorten the surname to Hamlin. There have now been four generations since the name was changed to Hamlin. My line goes as follows:

Mark Hamlin (myself, b.1982, Midland, MI)
Garry Hamlin (b.1951, Bay City, MI)
Russell Hamlin (b.1914, West Branch, MI)
Alfred Hamlin (b.1852, St. Chrysostome, Quebec)
Alexis Hamelin(Hamlin) (b.1818, Quebec)
Alexis Hamelin (b.1778, St-Phillippe de Laprairie, Quebec)
Renee Hamelin (b.1732-1733, Deschambault, Quebec)
Joseph dit Lacavee Hamelin (b.1697, Grondines, Quebec)
Francois Hamelin (b.~1659, St. Mathurin de la Dagueniere,
Diocese D'Angers, Anjou, France)
Nicolas Hamelin (b.~1620, St. Mathurin de la Dagueniere,
Diocese D'Angers, Anjou, France)
Francois Hamelin (b.~1580, Anjou, France)
