Everything I know about Francois is in that writeup, alas. I had the thought of hiring a genealogist on the other side of the pond to do some homework, but I was dubious about sending my money off into the ether without knowing whom I was sending it to, and was never able to find others willing to pitch in. Angers escaped heavy bombing so there is no reason to think there might not be anything there in terms of records from the 1600s. I am hoping to visit Angers in the next couple of summers and perhaps I can snoop some myself.

I have long thought the Hamelin brorhers sailed from Honfleur in Normandy, but now I am wondering if they simply sailed from Angers, which is on the Loire. There should be sailing records someplace. In short, there has to be more information out there. It's just a matter of time and money. I have plenty of the former but, alas, not enough of the latter.
